Community Rules & Etiquette and Privacy Guidelines
Thank you for being part of our community. To ensure the best possible experience for all members, we have established some basic guidelines for participation.
By joining and using this community, you agree that you have read and will follow these rules and guidelines. You also agree to reserve discussions and shared files and content to that best suited to the medium. This is a great medium with which to solicit the advice of your peers, benefit from their experience, and participate in an ongoing conversation. Questions should be directed to our member services department via the
Contact Us link on this site.
Please take a moment to acquaint yourself with these important guidelines. If you have questions, contact the member services department. In order to preserve an environment that encourages both civil and fruitful dialogue, we reserve the right to suspend or terminate membership in this community for anyone who violates these rules.
The Rules
- Respect others. Focus on the content of posts and not on the people making them. Please extend the benefit of the doubt to newer guests and members; there’s no such thing as a stupid question.
- Respect the purpose of the community. Use the community to share successes, challenges, constructive feedback, questions, and goals instead of products or services that you provide. If you’ve found a product or service helpful, please share your experience with the group in a respectful way.
- Use caution when discussing products. Information posted on the discussion groups and in the libraries is available for all to see, and comments are subject to libel, slander, and antitrust laws.
- All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials are strictly prohibited. Do not post anything that you would not want the world to see or that you would not want anyone to know came from you.
- Respect intellectual property. Post content that you have personally created or have permission to use and have properly attributed to the content creator.
- When posting items in our collaborative environment, please indicate if the item is not available for reuse. It’s also advisable to contact the owner of any material if you would like to reuse it.
- Post your message or documents only to the most appropriate communities. This helps ensure all messages receive the best response by eliminating "noise."
Discussion Group Etiquette
- State concisely and clearly the topic of your comments in the subject line. This allows members to respond more appropriately to your posting and makes it easier for members to search the archives by subject.
- Send messages such as "thanks for the information" or "me, too" to individuals, not to the entire list. Do this by using the "Reply to Sender" link in every message.
- Do not send administrative messages, such as “remove me from the list,” to the group. Instead, use the web interface to change your settings or to remove yourself from a list. If you are changing email addresses, you do not need to remove yourself from the list and rejoin under your new email address. Simply change your settings.
The Legal Stuff This site is provided as a service for the members of the International Sign Association (ISA). In all uses of the community, you shall act in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations of all regulatory bodies and with all laws, ordinances, orders, rules, and regulations of all local, state, federal and other jurisdictions having authority over the performance hereof. In addition, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold ISA, its officers, directors, employees, members and agents harmless from and against any and all claims, proceedings, damages, injuries, liabilities losses, costs and expenses (including attorney’s fees) relating to any acts or omissions by you or materials or information transmitted or posted by you in the use of the community leading wholly or partially to claims against ISA, its officers, directors, employees, members, or agents or the community by other users or third parties. The terms of this provision shall indefinitely survive the termination of your use of the community and the termination or expiration of these Terms of Use.

ISA does not actively monitor the site for inappropriate postings and does not on its own undertake editorial control of postings. However, in the event that any inappropriate posting is brought to the attention of ISA we will take all appropriate action.
ISA reserves the right to terminate access to any user who does not abide by these guidelines. ISA further reserves the right to update these terms of use in its sole and reasonable discretion. Your continued use of the community will be considered acceptance of any revised terms and subject to the terms of the then-current Terms of Use.
You agree that any disputes arising out of these Terms and Conditions shall be governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States of America without regard to principles of conflicts of laws.
Waiver by ISA of any term or condition of these Terms of Use or any breach shall not constitute a waiver of any other term or condition or breach of this Agreement or a waiver of such term, condition, or breach at a subsequent time.
If any part of any provision of these Terms of Use shall be invalid or unenforceable under applicable law, said part or provision shall be ineffective to the extent of such invalidity or unenforceability only, without in any way affecting the remaining parts of said part or provision or the remaining parts or provisions of said agreement.
Intellectual Property You shall not post any information or other material protected by copyright without the permission of the copyright owner. By posting material, you represent and warrant that you own the copyright with respect to such material or that you have received permission from the copyright owner to post the material. In addition, by posting such material the copyright owner grants ISA and the community members the nonexclusive and irrevocable right and license to display, copy, publish, distribute, transmit, print, and use such information or other material. Notwithstanding the foregoing, certain groups within the community may engage in confidential discussions or posts that should not be reposted by the community members without specific permission.
The trademarks, service marks, trade names, trade dress and logos (collectively, "Marks") contained or described on the Forum are the sole property of ISA or other third parties and may not be copied, imitated or otherwise used, in whole or in part, without the prior written permission of their respective owners. In addition, all page headers, custom graphics, button icons and scripts are the sole property of ISA and may not be copied, imitated or otherwise used, in whole or in part, without the prior written permission of ISA.
Privacy Policy ISA’s Privacy Policy can be accessed in full at https://www.signs.org/privacy-policy. ISA is not subject to the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR"). Consequently, GDPR and the United Kingdom’s GDPR do not apply. ISA shall follow all applicable laws, rules, and regulations as it applies to ISA.
Anti-Trust Policy ISA’s policy is to support compliance with federal and state antitrust laws, enacted to preserve the free enterprise system, promote vigorous competition in the marketplace, and to protect the public. Vigorous, honest, and fair competition is the cornerstone of our free enterprise, and history has shown that societies that promote vigorous competition among private firms have lower prices, better products and services, and greater consumer choice. Compliance means not only abiding by the law in all respects, but also honoring its spirit and goals.
Messages should not be posted if they encourage or facilitate members to arrive at any agreement that either expressly or impliedly leads to price fixing, a boycott of another's business, or other conduct intended to illegally restrict free trade. Messages that encourage or facilitate an agreement about the following subjects are inappropriate: prices, discounts, or terms or conditions of sale; salaries; profits, profit margins, or cost data; market shares, sales territories, or markets; allocation of customers or territories; or selection, rejection, or termination of customers or suppliers.
ISA Community members are responsible for complying with ISA’s antitrust policy. Contact with competitors, including meetings and social engagements, presents the most substantial antitrust risks. Therefore, the following discussions are prohibited to take place on within the ISA Community: price fixing, customer or market allocations, membership restrictions, standardization and certification, self-regulation, and any other conduct which might even suggest antitrust violations.
ISA’s antitrust policy may prohibit some conduct that may be lawful under the antitrust laws but that presents unacceptable high legal or business risks. Violations of ISA’s antitrust policy are subject to severe disciplinary measures, including dismissal.
